An important part of your overall health is relaxation. It can reduce stress and help the body calm down and have a better sleep. Relaxation can also relieve unnecessary tension and give an overall good feeling. Relaxation can also help the eyes see more clearly and focus better.
The most challenging part of relaxation is keeping mind quiet. Thoughts constantly move at a fast pace and as the ‘to do’ list grows so do the racing thoughts. Shutting down the mind is the tricky part of total relaxation, but it’s possible. The key is to move all that energy stuck in the head down through the entire body and out the feet. May sound like hocus pocus, but it actually works through a process known as ‘exhaling through the feet’.
This is how it works. Lie down on your back in a dark room; this is great just before you go to sleep. Imagine your breath moving from your lungs down through the entire body. As you exhale, picture the air moving down toward your toes. Imagine your breath passing through every organ in your body, liver, heart, kidneys and continuing down the thighs, calves, ankles, and toes. Exhale completely, until all the air is out of your lungs and the next breath naturally comes. Inhale normally, don’t force anything, and let your body do its own work. Once your lungs are full once more, start the process again of picturing the air moving through the body.
Do this exercise as many as possible until you fall asleep. When you wake up the following morning you will notice that you feel more relaxed and refreshed ready to face the day. A great night’s sleep is important in reducing stress and strain and start the day right. Staying up late and waking up early, leaves us feeling groggy and sleepy all day. This can leave us ‘off’ for the remainder of the day. We are not as productive and our eyes are straining the whole day. That’s why it’s important that you have enough rest, but not excessively, so you can start your day correctly and in a positive mind frame. You’ll feel more energized and happy to go to work.
A very important habit that you should develop is relaxation. Learning good relaxation techniques can help you get a better sleep and your whole body including your eyes will greatly benefit from it.
