Today, computers are considered as a part of our everyday lives; we all need them and are use to them being a part of our daily lives. However, it is important that we also listen to our bodies and relax or take a break when needed.
Listen to what your body says; it knows better than you do when it’s time to take a break. Do not work until your eyes burn; you missed all the previous signs. It’s important that you take short breaks every hour of work. This means standing up at least every hour and walk around. However, it’s not just enough that you only take short breaks. Practice also looking away from the screen every 15-20 minutes for a couple of minutes. Look at close and far away objects so you can have your eyes adjust and move around. The main goal is to prevent eye strain first of all.
Keep your eyes lubricated by blinking as often as you can. Take a couple of minutes to roll the eyeballs around; you can do this with your eyes open or closed so as you won’t look silly in your desk. Close and open your eyes often to give them a short break. Yawn if you have too. Yawning stretches out the muscles of the jaw and keeps them from becoming tense causing headaches and eye strain.
Try to move around often. You should always be in a comfortable position so adjust your body or chair as often as possible. Adjust your keyboard or monitor so you don’t have to stretch your neck or look at objects from a strange angle. Try to prevent glare on the screen, adjust it as the sun changes its position or better get a screen protector.
Always keep your work area well lit and bright. Bright lights lighten up the mood and can give you positive feelings. While on the other hand dim lights can bring down your mood and make you feel sluggish. Making small changes in your work area and having breaks often can prevent your long hours in front of the computer screen from causing permanent damage to your eyes.
